On 12 March 2026, an online meeting of members of the Public Water Initiative of Ukraine (PWIU) was held, dedicated to the preparation of the Round Table on the launch of the National Water Policy Dialogue 2026.

Experts from the  NGO “Primavera” who are also members of the PWIU, took part in the event.

Participants discussed the strategic importance of the National Water Policy Dialogue 2026, which aims to strengthen the role of the expert community in shaping Ukraine’s water policy.

As a result of the implementation of the National Water Policy Dialogue 2026, it is expected to:

• propose fundamental principles of water governance for shaping water policy;
• define priorities for cross-sectoral integrated water policy in the context of military aggression, climate, and other challenges during the post-war recovery period.

The participants also discussed the agenda of the Round Table and the list of key stakeholders, approved the preparation plan for the Round Table, and conducted an interactive flash survey on the key principles of water policy formation under wartime and post-war recovery conditions.

The results obtained will help balance different expert perspectives and contribute to consolidating a shared vision for updating water policy, which will be presented to government authorities and international donors during the Round Table.

The developed approaches are planned to be presented during the World Bank mission, as well as used to improve the methodology of the Round Table and to further refine the event program.

Participants emphasized the importance of active engagement of the expert community and civil society in shaping and implementing water policy reforms, as new approaches to water resources management in Ukraine for the coming decades are being established now.
