The Transcarpathian region, like many other regions of Ukraine, faces challenges related to water resource management, such as floods, water scarcity during dry periods, and inefficient use of water resources in agriculture, which negatively impacts agricultural production in the region.
To address these challenges, a project supported by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), "Pre-feasibility and Roadmap development for a Masterplan in a Tisza sub-basin in Carpatia (Ukraine)” has been launched in the Transcarpathian region.
The project will be implemented with the participation of experts in water and land resource management from Ukraine and the Netherlands. The goal of the project is to justify a technical assignment for the development of an integrated water resource management plan to prevent flooding of territories as a result of floods and the use of water resources for agricultural production and other types of economic activities at the level of the selected pilot territorial community, including the production of green energy, development of horticulture, cultivation of new high-yield agricultural crops, and food processing.
The project will run from October 24, 2024 to December 7, 2024. In agreement with the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine and based on consultations with experts from the State Regional Administration in the Transcarpathian region, Vynohradiv Territorial Community has been selected as a pilot territory.
On November 14-15, 2024, experts from the NGO "Primavera" conducted working meetings with representatives of water management and agricultural organizations at the regional level and an interactive seminar in the pilot project territory - Vynohradiv city territorial community as part of the project tasks.
The purpose of the seminar was to present the project in the pilot community with the participation of all interested parties and to conduct an interactive workshop to identify a set of problems (technical, economic, organizational, environmental, and social) related to water resource management and agricultural production within the pilot community.
With the support of Primavera NGO experts, the seminar participants formulated proposals for a set of measures to improve flood monitoring and management, maintenance and use of water resources to increase efficiency and develop various directions of agricultural production and green energy.
