OFFLINE 2-DAYS TRAINING ON WATER AND LAND RESOURCE MANAGEMENT AT TC LEVEL

On March 11-12, 2025, was held an offline 2-days training on water and land resource management . The event was organized within the framework of the project "Reconstruction of Kherson Region Water Supply Systems: Immediate Measures and Sustainable Solutions," implemented by VNG International - the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Netherlands Municipalities (VNG) in  partnership with the Association of Ukrainian Cities and the PO "Ecoclub." The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the Ukraine Partnership Facility (UPF) program, administered through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency - RVO (The Netherlands Enterprise Agency).  

The theme of the training was "Developing Integrated Water and Land Resource Management Plans at the territorial community level in the Kherson region".

The purpose of the training was to familiarize participants with the methodology of integrated water and land resource management, to organize the process of scenario planning for activities and projects, as well as to assess scenarios and conduct feasibility studies of project ideas for investment projects.

The training session was attended by experts from partner institutions of the Association of Ukrainian Cities and PO "Ecoclub," as well as heads of military administrations, representatives of water utilities, and relevant departments of local self-government bodies from the project's target communities.

The trainers from the NGO "Primavera" were:

  • Olga Zhovtonog, Professor, expert on IWRM, rural development, and institutional reforms in water resource management;
  • Tetiana Matiash, expert on environmental, economic, and organizational problems of water use;
  • Vitalii Polishchuk, expert on modernization of irrigation systems and involvement of water users in water and land use planning.

Training participants gained valuable knowledge on organizing the process of integrated water and land resource management planning in community territories. Particular attention was paid to analyzing the actual situation and problems of water and land resource management on the local level, as well as considering the vision of key stakeholders.

The acquired knowledge will be used by participants to implement the integrated planning process in territorial communities, develop sustainable water and land use strategies, and conduct feasibility studies of investment projects for the implementation of diverse measures in accordance with the selected planning scenario.
