On October 19-20, 2023, the experts of NGO Primavera Vasyl Turchenyuk and Serhiy Klimov visited the Volyn region in the framework of the PSD-project "Development of capacity for the creation of WUO for water resources management for sustainable agricultural production in the Volyn region" implemented under the support of the Government of the Netherlands (RVO).

As a result of the working meetings with stakeholders, priority measures were determined to restore the efficiency of the Krychevychivska drainage system, which are aimed at ensuring sustainable agricultural production on the system's lands, solving environmental problems related to the flooding of forest areas, protecting the settlements of the Kolodyazhne community from the harmful effects of water and adjacent territories. This set of measures includes the cleaning of part of the canals of the leading and regulating drainage networks, repair of hydro-technical structures, modernization of the pumping station, installation of mole drainage on the part of the system with peat soils, deep loosening on mineral soils, cleaning and deepening of the main canals of the forest fund, creation of a network of wells for monitoring the groundwater level.

Following the program of the visit, training was held for stakeholders at the local level on the introduction of modern technologies and technical solutions for the restoration and improvement of the use efficiency of drained lands and adjacent territories, as well as the protection of the community's settlements from the harmful effects of water. The existing world experience of reconstruction and design of drainage systems was demonstrated, in particular in the example of the Netherlands.

In the end, the head of the Kolodyazhne community, Vitaliy Kashyk, expressed his gratitude to the participants of the event and his hope for further fruitful cooperation, which will ensure the effective functioning of the local land reclamation system and, accordingly, increase the quality of the community's land fund and form the prerequisites for the creation of WUO on drainage lands.

During the working trip the necessary technical data was collected, which will be used for further work on the project.
